So i've seen servers do this but I was wondering if there is anyway we could set up a claiming land thing where you claim a plot and no one else can build on it, I think it would reduce griefing and accidentally destroying things (New Users). only problem is i have no idea how it would work or even if it would work... anyone have any ideas?

Unfortunately probably not. The server we have running is a forge server. That allows us to use the RBJM. A Bukkit server would allow us to use a plug-in to claim plots. Since we are funning forge and not Bukkit we probably can't find a way to do this. Sphonz can confirm or deny this, but I'm pretty sure this is the case

I think the only way to find out for sure is to test some plugins. About a year ago I got this information from the developer of RBJ. I think it is what you are looking for. We will just need to map out the whole "plot"

I just wrote some permissions code, which lets you specify which areas of the world users are permitted to change with setBlock*() commands. The permissions are tied to authentication, so all scripts that are on the server have whatever permission you have the fake server user.
Once this is tested, you may want to protect the central area of your world, where players start out. To do that, it'll be enough to make an rjmpermissions.dat file that says: * forbid 0,x1,z1,x2,z2
(The 0 means the first world, i.e., the overworld. The * means it applies to all players.)
If you want the server-side scripts to have full access, you can add after that: server permit *,*
I can test this with the sandbox I have running at home. Set up the same as the PyCraft server.
